Home to the people of the Bundjalung nation, Casino was a central focus for Indigenous culture and art, a rich history that continues today.

In the middle of the nineteenth century Henry Clay and George Stapleton claimed 30,000 acres of land close to the Richmond River and named it after Monte Cassino in Italy.  Due to a misspelling when registering the town, it has since been known as Casino.  Today Casino is renowned for its quality beef production, timber and agriculture and as the rail and freight hub of the far north coast.

Casino boasts three high schools, seven primary schools, several pre-schools and day care centres plus two specialty schools so you can be assured your children’s education will be a priority.  Adult education is serviced by an ACE (Adult Community Education) and TAFE in Casino and Southern Cross University is a 30 minute drive away in Lismore.

A wide range of sporting venues and facilities are available in and around Casino including football, cricket, netball, rugby league, rugby union, AFL, golf, squash, bowls, croquet and tennis. There is also a skate park and excellent BMX track located in Crawford Square.
