An initiative of Richmond Valley Council, Platypus Gallery exhibits the works of emerging artists in the Richmond Valley offering creative members of the community the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in gallery based exhibits and working in a commercial environment.
Platypus Gallery is well known for innovative exhibitions across a wide variety of genres, being one of the only galleries in the area where artists can show and sell their work at no cost to them. Approximately ten exhibitions are showcased per year, each chosen to support and enhance cultural diversity and creative expression, including several sponsored annual art competitions.
Platypus Gallery is located within the Casino Visitor Information Centre
and sells a range of locally produced arts, crafts and local produce encouraging economic and artistic endeavours in the region. The Gallery is open 7 days a week and is an opportunity to discover some of the many treasures created in the Valley of Surprises
In addition to the Gallery itself, Council has made additional art space available in the Casino Community and Cultural Centre located at 35 Walker Street. Exhibitions are also presented here between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday. There is no entry cost to view these exhibitions which adorn the walls of the Centre. The public is more than welcome to call in and browse.
