In the middle of the nineteenth century Henry Clay and George Stapleton claimed 30,000 acres of land close to the Richmond River and named it after Monte Cassino in Italy. Due to a misspelling when registering the town, it has since been known as Casino.
Today Casino is renowned for its quality beef production, timber and agriculture and as the rail and freight hub of the far north coast.

Casino’s three High Schools, seven Primary Schools, several Pre-Schools and day care centres and two Specialty Schools ensures children’s education is a priority. Adult education is serviced by and ACE and TAFE in Casino and Southern Cross University is a 30 minute drive away.
Sport:
A wide range of sporting venues and facilities are available in and around Casino including soccer, cricket, netball, rugby league, rugby union, AFL, golf, tennis and many other sports.
