Venue: Walker Street Casino

DID you know there are less than 80 days until Christmas?

Which is why Richmond Valley Council is planning the biggest Christmas Street Party to date with the third annual event taking place on Thursday 4 December, kicking off at 5pm.
The Council-run Christmas Street Party offers enough entertainment to have everyone dancing in the street, as well as ensuring many hours of fun rolling on into the night.
The past two carnivals have been huge successes with thousands of people turning up to enjoy the markets, entertainment, a visit from Santa, Pooches on Parade, and the lighting of the community Christmas tree. This year will again feature a primary school colouring-in competition, amusements, Old McDonald’s Farm, food stalls and a great line up of entertainment.
The Christmas Street Party is the perfect way for the community to come together to celebrate the end of a busy year and welcome in the new one with plenty of spirit. Local businesses and retailers, community groups, local schools and dance and music groups are encouraged to get involved.

Carnivale Italiano

Date: 13 April 2015

Venue: New Italy Museum Complex

Contact Details:

For more information visit www.newitaly.com.au or call Peter Blackwood on 0414 673 933

Celebrate the area’s rich history of Italian settlement at this year’s Carnevale Italiano, a celebration of "All things Italian"

Date: Sunday 23 April
Time: 10am mass followed by music to 4pm
Venue: New Italy Museum Complex, Pacific Highway, New Italy (ten minutes south of Woodburn)
Cost: $5 per person; children up to the age of 14 free.

On 12 April, the descendents of New Italy will celebrate the anniversary of fifty Italian families who immigrated to Australia in April 1881, and they invite you to join them.

The knowledge that has passed down through the generations has seeped into the Australian psyche - the love of fresh Italian food, Italian wine and Italian music. Carnevale Italiano is a day to immerse in this culture.

The day commemorates the original immigrants who settled at New Italy. These Venetians, mostly contadini - tillers of the soil - fulfilled a desire to escape the harshness of their homeland to sail to paradise. What took place was anything but that and this story is now part of the historical makeup of the Northern Rivers region of NSW.

If you have not been before this is a great day to enjoy the museum and pavilion in a family-friendly setting where bocce, horse and cart rides and circus combine.
