Evans Head Ocean Swim

Third time for this swim on a lovely NSW north coast beach, and it boasts a cornucopia of stars with whom you can swim - Paralympic heroine Jacquie Freney, a local girl, Olympian Melissa Gorman, and national open water swimmer Jack Burnham. Three events - 2km and 750m on the Sundee, and a Dash for Cash held in the local pool (Evans Head Aquatic Centre) on the Sat'dee arvo.

Evans Head sits between the glorious Yamba and the stunning Far North Coast from Ballina to Tweed Heads. This is a new date for this swim in 2013/14, shifting to the first Sundee in January, which means you can do Yamba, just down the road, on December 29, then hang abart for Evens Head on the first Sundee of the New Year. What a nice holiday. Don't tell the other half, however. They may catch on as to why you're so keen for a holiday on the North Coast in the New Year.

All proceeds to Evans Head Surf Club.

This is a terrific country event, and like all good country events you're all invited to dinner at the Evans Head surf club on Sat'dee night. This is a good night out with good country food. Nights such as these are very important to country swim organisers as fundraisers. Country surf clubs have few ways of raising funds otherwise. So if you're in town for the swim -- or you're just in town -- have tea at the surf club on Sat'dee night. And have a competition with your friends: see if you can identify the barman, and tell your kids his backstory (Sheesh! We said "his"... Gives away part of the answer...) There is something very special about country swims. Lovely sense of community. And on the June long weekend, the water still is warm, particularly on the North Coast.

The ANZAC Centenary is a milestone of special significance to all Australians. In the 100th

year of ANZAC we seek to honour all the men and women who served our nation in the First

World War and to keep the ANZAC spirit alive. We also recognise the efforts and sacrifice of

those who assisted the war effort at home and who kept the home fires burning.

presenting a performance to be held in the Casino RSM auditorium on the evening of

21 March 2015 and on the afternoon of 21 March 2015. Performances in rural

locations are also planned.

About the performance

performance, theatre and musical theatre. Original songs written and arranged by choir

musical director Patricia White are featured. Patricia is an accomplished musician, teacher

and writer.

World War memorabilia. Posters are currently being created by well-known local artist

Elizabeth Brand.

War scenes and scenes recognising the war effort at home are depicted using tableau

theatre techniques. Groups from the community are involved including the Casino

Community Men's Shed Inc., The Casino Big Band, school groups, vocalists and a community

Celebrate the area’s rich history of Italian settlement at this year’s Carnevale Italiano, a celebration of "All things Italian"

Date: Sunday 12 April
Time: 10am mass followed by music to 4pm
Venue: New Italy Museum Complex, Pacific Highway, New Italy (ten minutes south of Woodburn)
Cost: $5 per person; children up to the age of 14 free.

On 12 April, the descendents of New Italy will celebrate the anniversary of fifty Italian families who immigrated to Australia in April 1881, and they invite you to join them.

The knowledge that has passed down through the generations has seeped into the Australian psyche - the love of fresh Italian food, Italian wine and Italian music. Carnevale Italiano is a day to immerse in this culture.

The day commemorates the original immigrants who settled at New Italy. These Venetians, mostly contadini - tillers of the soil - fulfilled a desire to escape the harshness of their homeland to sail to paradise. What took place was anything but that and this story is now part of the historical makeup of the Northern Rivers region of NSW.

If you have not been before this is a great day to enjoy the museum and pavilion in a family-friendly setting where bocce, horse and cart rides and circus combine.
